Hello, my name is Nika Jibrael, but some of you may know me as Ms. Nika. This blog post is a mini autobiography to get know me just a little bit better! So let's start here, there is one thing I have always

known about myself.

I was born to be a teacher.

It's something about the magical feeling of walking down the hallways and seeing all the children's work hung neatly on the bulletin boards. That feeling of seeing a classroom transform into a safe and stimulating space for children to learn and discover. That feeling of pure accomplishment when observing children break out of their comfort zones and blossom in courage and independence. Yes, that is where I belong and that is why today I am where I am; an Early Childhood Educator with over 10 years of experience with my own Early Learning Schools!

Although that's where I spend a lot of my time and where it all started, over the last 5 years my love for teaching expanded into Adult Education. I quickly realized that my heart has a huge space for inspiring new teachers to succeed in their own classrooms and enjoy it just as much as I do. This year I decided to take the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program as part of my commitment to continuous improvement. I always want to offer the best learning experiences to children, adults and families. Being an Early Childhood Education Instructor is more than just another part of my professional career. It truly brings me a sense of purpose and community. I feel grateful that I get to be part of all my students life story's and they get to be a part of mine.

During the pandemic it was my students who inspired me to create Educator Connect, an online platform that connects Early Childhood Educators and Early Learning Schools through a personalized job bank experience. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's something to see (www.educatorconnect.ca)! It's been 2 years in the making and still under construction but my desire and dedication to helping teachers motivates me everyday to make this amazing resource a reality. I know this will support so many teachers in finding their dream job. I wish there was something like it when I was starting out.

A day in the life of Ms. Nika really consists of dedicated hard work, reflection, challenge and growth. Some days I am exhausted from my never-ending to do list or just from being out of my comfort zone. Some days I just feel like I'm not making much progress, but when I look back at 2 months ago, 6 months ago, a year ago I realize just how big these baby steps are. They count!

My life story has been a process of continuous challenge and growth to get to where I am and where I want to go but my passion for teaching is my fuel and so that's why I felt the title for this post was the most suitable title, "A day in the life and years in the making...." Whether you are just starting out in your journey or almost at the end, keep going! Each day bring you a step closer. I hope from this post you found something to reflect on, something to inspire you or something to encourage you!

Remember "Enjoy every given moment".

Love Nika
